I guess 999 is like what 911 is here. I think this story is from England. Not sure.
Paramedics suspended after they 'refuse' 999 call
TWO paramedics have been suspended over claims they failed to attend a 999 call on time after arguing it was not their turn.
It is alleged the pair, who work at the Kempston station, argued with the controller who had sent them to attend a category A incident.
All calls made to Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Ambulance and Paramedic Service are graded A, B or C, with A being the most serious call-out.
But instead of immediately leaving the station to attend the incident, it is claimed the pair argued that it was not their turn to go out on a job and said another crew should attend.
All paramedics are required to attend category A 999 calls within seven minutes and 59 seconds. But the pair were allegedly still at the station during this time refusing to go out.
They finally gave in but arrived at the scene 12 minutes after the call was made.
An investigation was immediately launched and the pair have been suspended from all duties.
A spokesman for Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Ambulance service said: "I can confirm that two members of the Trust have been suspended from full duties and we are currently holding an internal investigation."
